While these units cannot process more complex materials, such as fabrics and porous materials, they provide a large sterilization space for simpler materials, such as glassware, liquids, waste, discard, and Containment Level 3 / Bio-safety Level 3 (CL3 / BSL3) material. A large square chamber allows them to handle large loads for their external size, as well as large or difficultly shaped items. By simplifying their hardware, they provide a lower cost option for facilities with more basic requirements.

While all Astell autoclaves are designed to be as power and water efficient as possible, the Low Water And Power Consumption Range go a step further. These autoclaves sacrifice the ability to include the Containment Level 3 / Bio-safety Level 3 (CL3 / BSL3) upgrade, allowing them to include the Astell Ecofill system.

The Astell Ecofill system adds a water reservoir to the autoclave. This reservoir is simply filled via a port on the top of unit, rather than filling the bottom of the autoclave chamber with water. Water is automatically supplied to the autoclave chamber on demand, then returned to the reservoir when not required, capturing both water and heat energy. This process allows the Ecofill system to save water, processing time, and energy when compared to an autoclave without Ecofill when cycles are run back to back. Additionally, Ecofill autoclaves can run for 15 cycles before it requires refilling, providing greater simplicity and time efficiency.

Fitted with a door on either side of the sterilization chamber, the Astell Pass-Through Autoclave range provide an access port for items entering a sterile area or leaving an area containing hazardous biological material. Usually inset into a wall, these systems provide a tunnel through which anything passing through is sterilized. Typically these units are developed from autoclaves in the The Maximum Capacity, Maximum Adaptability Autoclave Range, although autoclaves from other ranges can be developed into Pass-Through Autoclaves
