The AMA Compact Classic Toploading Autoclave is a versatile machine capable of sterilizing glassware, instruments, autoclavable plasticware, liquids, discard and waste, and—with the inclusion of the CATIII filter option—Containment Level 3 (CL3) / Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) materials. The AMA Compact Classic has a strong functional similarity to the AMB Classic Benchtop Autoclave, differing only in chamber aspect. In fact, the chamber shape of the 63L AMA Compact Toploader and the 63L AMB Benchtop Autoclave are nearly identical—deciding between them is often a matter of considering the available space in the laboratory and the shape of the items to be sterilized in the autoclave chamber.

Like all Astell autoclaves, the AMA Compact Classic Toploading Autoclave is fitted with a touchscreen control computer, providing maximum cycle adaptability for its hardware and for storing data from past cycles. Capable of incorporating 21 CFR Part 11 software alongside BSL3 hardware, the Classic vertical autoclave is well-suited to higher biosafety activities such as vaccine development, clinical trials, Genetic Modified Organism (GMO) activities, and other life sciences research.
